“I am very honoured to receive this award and it was completely unexpected. I work in a team of 2 so to be able to do my job well and even be considered for such a thing, it would not be possible without my counterpart, Sgt Fraser and I feel it is very much a team effort. However, I am humbled to be recognised for receiving an award for doing a job I love and that someone would think so highly of me to even consider a nomination.”

Sergeant Powell was nominated for the Securing the Skies Award for her outstanding professionalism and commitment to delivering crucial Warning Advice and Reporting Point functions throughout 2021. As the RAF’s representative with Strategic Command, Sergeant Powell ensured RAF requirements were incorporated into the Defence’s innovative security incident management system, significantly impacting RAF management and reporting. Sergeant Powells’ expertise was pivotal in the WARP being considered throughout Defence as the exemplar. Consequently, another defence organisation sought her advice to help establish their own WARP.

“I was absolutely delighted to present the Securing the Skies Award for 2022 to Sgt Powell RAF Police. I was particularly impressed with the outstanding quality of her citation. The award is very well deserved indeed.”
