101 Squadron

State of the art air-tanker and transport capability on operations and in support of UK Quick Reaction Alert.

Mind over matter

Issuant from the battlements of a tower, a demi lion rampant guardant - approved by King George VI in February 1938. The battlements symbolise the Squadron's pioneering role in the development of power-operated gun turrets, while the lion indicates the unit's fighting power and spirit.

  • Aircraft flown include the Lancaster, Canberra B2, Vulcan B1 and the VC10
  • Provides RAF and Coalition forces vital air-to-air refueling in support of Operation SHADER

1917 - Formed at South Farnborough.
