THE SQUADRON

2624 Squadron RAuxAF Regiment falls under the Combat Readiness Force.  The Squadron provides trained personnel to support RAF Regiment field squadrons on operations worldwide.  Personnel are recruited from all over southern England, and in recent years have deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and domestically.

History

1982   Formed as 2624 Squadron RAuxAF (County of Oxfordshire), as an RAF Regiment Field Squadron tasked with providing ground defence for RAF Brize Norton.

1998   The unit became a Role Support Squadron and was tasked to support the Air Refuelling Force based at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Lyneham.

2003   Reformed as 501 Squadron RAuxAF (County of Gloucestershire).

2013   Reformed as 2624 Squadron RAuxAF (County of Oxfordshire).
