An eagle, wings elevated, preying on a serpent - approved by King George VI in January 1938.


  • Based at RAF Lossiemouth, one of two Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) stations in the UK
  • Completed over 50 years of continuous overseas service
  • Aircraft flown have included the Demon, Gauntlet, Canberra and Jaguar
  • Took part in the air action over Libya as part of Operation ELLAMY 


1914 - Formed at Farnborough.

1947 - The last RAF Hurricane squadron.

1969 - Returned to the UK for the first time since 1919.

2015 - Conducted NATO air policing in the Baltic.
