607 Squadron RAuxAF

Recruiting and training reservists who will support operations and exercises around the World.

Famously the Squadron chose not to have a motto


  • Based at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire
  • It is the centre of Excellence of RAF Reserve Logistic Driver and supply training
  • Recruits and trains General Engineering Technicians (Electrical and Mechanical), Intelligence Analysts, Drivers, Chefs, Suppliers and Human Resources personnel
  • After being disbanded in 1957 it was reformed in January 2015 at RAF Leeming and established within No 1 Group


1930 - Formed at RAF Usworth flying Westland Wapiti light Bombers.

1936 - Re-roled to a fighter unit with Hawker Demon aircraft.

1939/40 - As a part of the Air component of the BEF, took part in the Battle of France. flying Gladiator biplanes then Hawker Hurricanes.

1940 - Took part in the Battle of Britain flying Hawker Hurricanes.

1941 - First Squadron to operate the ‘Hurri’ bomber, the Hawker Hurricane with bombs attached.

1943- First Squadron to operate the Spitfire in the fighter role, in the Burma campaign.

1950 - Converted to flying Vampires until disbanded in 1957.

2015 - Reformed as a General Service Support Squadron within 1Gp Reserves.
