About

607 Squadron is based at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire. It is the centre of Excellence of RAF Reserve Logistic Driver and supply training. The Squadron recruits and trains General Engineering Technicians (Electrical and Mechanical), Intelligence Analysts, Drivers, Chefs, Suppliers and Human Resources personnel. After being disbanded in 1957 it was reformed in January 2015 at RAF Leeming and established within No 1 Group.

History

1930   Formed at RAF Usworth flying Westland Wapiti light Bombers.

1936   Re-roled to a fighter unit with Hawker Demon aircraft.

1939 - 1940   As a part of the Air component of the BEF, took part in the Battle of France. flying Gladiator biplanes then Hawker Hurricanes.

1940   Took part in the Battle of Britain flying Hawker Hurricanes.

1941   First Squadron to operate the ‘Hurri’ bomber, the Hawker Hurricane with bombs attached.

1943   First Squadron to operate the Spitfire in the fighter role, in the Burma campaign.

1950   Converted to flying Vampires until disbanded in 1957.

2015   Reformed as a General Service Support Squadron within 1Gp Reserves.
