About

622 Squadron provides Aircrew and flying support personnel and is based at RAF Brize Norton, in support of the air transport fleet. 622 Squadron recruits solely from Ex Regular personnel.

History

1943   Formed at RAF Mildenhall as a bomber squadron flying Stirling and Lancaster aircraft.

1950-1953   The Squadron was active flying Vickers Valettas as the only transport squadron in the RAuxAF.

1994   Reformed to support the Hercules Force and originally known as 1359 Flight, the unit was embedded on the Hercules Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) at RAF Lyneham.

2012   The use of the 622 designation was authorised by the Standing Committee of the Air Force Board for a Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron to support the RAF's Air Mobility Force.
