7630 Squadron RAuxAF

Provides experienced staff officers to support air intelligence activity in the UK and overseas.



  • Personnel are largely recruited from ex-regular Intelligence Officers or long serving reservists
  • Maintains a niche resource of Subject Matter Experts
  • Squadron members generally work individually at HQs and stations across the UK and abroad
  • Personnel have deployed worldwide on exercise and operations since 1958


1958 – Formed as 7630 Flight RAF Volunteer Reserve to provide a pool of Russian linguists.

1972 – Broadened Intelligence roles to provide analysis and briefing capabilities.

1997 – Became 7630(VR) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

2003 – 2014 - deployed in support of Op TELIC and Op HERRICK .

2017 – Re-roled to become a Subject Matter Expert squadron within the Intelligence Reserves Wing.
