Personnel are largely recruited from ex-regular Intelligence Officers or long serving reservists
Maintains a niche resource of Subject Matter Experts
Squadron members generally work individually at HQs and stations across the UK and abroad
Personnel have deployed worldwide on exercise and operations since 1958

1958 – Formed as 7630 Flight RAF Volunteer Reserve to provide a pool of Russian linguists.

1972 – Broadened Intelligence roles to provide analysis and briefing capabilities.

1997 – Became 7630(VR) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

2003 – 2014 - deployed in support of Op TELIC and Op HERRICK .

2017 – Re-roled to become a Subject Matter Expert squadron within the Intelligence Reserves Wing.

7630 Squadron does not have any Battle Honours at this time.
