RAF Boulmer Spring Nursery

Spring Nursery is situated in a purpose built facility in Longhoughton.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 6pm for 51 weeks of the year.  Closed for Bank holidays and the Christmas break.

They are registered for up to 40 children aged zero to five years and children may attend full time or for just a session as required. Spring Nursery also provide free funded nursery places for two, three and four year olds.

Family Contact Welfare Houses

RAF Boulmer has two Contact Houses (a 2-bed and 4-bed property), which primarily provide accommodation for welfare and contact visits.

The Community Support Team are available to provide assistance and advice on booking the Contact Houses, Monday to Friday, 0800-1600hrs.

Health and welfare

Medical Centre

The RAF Boulmer Medical Centre provides medical and dental care for RAF personnel only. Dependants of personnel should register with a local GP.

The Centre is on the ground floor of SHQ on the Main Site.

SSAFA PS&SWS RAF

SSAFA Personal Support & Social Work Service RAF (PS&SWS RAF) is contracted by the RAF to provide welfare support to all serving personnel (regular and reserves) and their families. Our team of specialist Personal & Family Support Workers and Social Workers are located on stations in the RAF community throughout the UK.

Our service is confidential and independent from the Chain of Command. It is the aim of our service to support you to enhance personal welfare, maintain family stability and empower you to access the support networks you are entitled to.

Our service can support you with a range of issues including addiction & dependency, child support, financial, housing, mental health, personal support, physical health and relationships.

Anyone, regular, reserve or dependent, can refer themselves to SSAFA. You can contact our service by any of the ways below;

Chaplains

The Station Chaplain (Padre) is here to support all serving personnel, civilian staff and their families.

The Padre is available, regardless of rank, religious belief or background to confidentially discuss any pastoral, welfare or spiritual problems.

While routine matters are usually handled during normal working hours, if more convenient, appointments can be made in the evening.

Sports

Station Gym

The Operations Site gym is located in the School of Aerospace Battle Management. Equipment includes cardio-vascular / aerobic, fixed weights and free weights.

Personnel will require an induction before using the Operations Site gym for the first time.

The gym is also available to dependants.

Fitness Suite (Kings Gym)

A modern fitness training facility is located in the gym. It houses aerobic training machines such as rowers, treadmills, steppers, bikes and elliptical trainers. For weight training there are single-station resistance machines and a comprehensive range of free weights.

The building contains full shower and changing facilities.

Fitness suite membership cards and Health and Safety at Work briefings are available from the PEd Flight. Families of service personnel, MOD civilians and contractors are also able to take up membership.

Sports Pitches and Courts

The Station Sports Hall located on the RAF Boulmer main site, can be used for a number of team activities including five a side football, basketball, uni-hoc, volleyball and badminton. It also incorporates cricket nets and a climbing wall.

There are two squash courts with changing / showering facilities. They are situated directly
behind the cricket pavilion on the RAF Boulmer main site.

Adventurous Training

Various Station expeditions are run each year and are publicised widely throughout the Station. They include mountaineering, hillwalking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, skiing and mountain biking.

Circuit Training

Circuit training sessions are run from Monday to Thursday, 8am to 10am and 12 noon to 1pm in the Sports Hall.

All standards of fitness are catered for and everyone is welcome.

Sports Clubs

A range of sports clubs exist at RAF Boulmer with a wide variety of both summer and winter
activities organised.

'Dukes' Club

The 'Dukes' Club is a newly refurbished all ranks and Junior Ranks' bar.

Opening time: lunchtime and during the evening.

The 'Dukes' Club is available for hire for functions (including All Ranks and private functions) through the Dukes Club Committee.

Other facilities

Longhoughton village is approximately one mile from the Main Site and about two miles from the Operations Site. Within the village there is a Co-op shop, coffee shop and cafe.
