International Women's Day - The Day Dedicated to the Achievements of Women

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements-from the political to the economic, and the social-while calling for gender equality. The day has been celebrated since the very first IWD held in 1900’s.

The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead.

International Women's Day is not country, group, nor organization specific. No one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women's network, or media hub is solely responsible for International Women's Day. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained, "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."

As female personnel gathered from across the station, Station Commander RAF Brize Norton, Group Captain Emily Flynn said:

“It is important for me to mark international women’s day as the current Station Commander of the UK’s largest RAF Station. Events to mark IWD across RAF Brize Norton has brought together an array of individuals from the Whole Force to stand together in highlighting the need to challenge ongoing bias in the workplace and beyond as we continue to push for even greater inclusion every day.”

Women make up nearly half the global population and there is no doubt that progress has been made in terms of equality over the last century.

Let’s make International Women's Day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.
