“I work within C-17 CAMO as the engineering records administrator and I am currently undertaking a L3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration. I started in February 2021 and I am now nearing the end of my course. Though at times it has been challenging, it has also been a rewarding experience. I have developed skills required for my current role and any future roles. A colleague has recently started the same apprenticeship and it’s good to be able to give her guidance and have someone to share the learning experience with.”

A Business Administration Apprenticeship is another career pathway into a job into business administration and other related fields of business. This is a versatile apprenticeship and can a pathway into many areas of business.

“After many years working in Air Movements for the RAF it has been a great pleasure in learning a new skill in the above apprenticeship. The standard has also helped me bring up my core skill levels in maths and English which has helped me in my current role as an Aircraft Handler within Serco Ramp Services at RAF Brize Norton. I would highly recommend anyone doing an apprenticeship to better themselves.”

Aviation Ground Operative
Apprenticeship Standard Level 2

An Aviation Ground Operative could work in a number of environments, such as a commercial airport, military base / aerodrome, heliport or other airfield. With five key specialist functions, all working in conjunction with each other, aviation ground operators form the teams above and below wing to ensure the efficient and effective arrival, turnaround, and departure of aircraft. At the heart of the role, safety, security and compliance with aviation regulations focus each operator’s day to day duties. Effective communication and teamwork ensure that passenger services, air traffic control (ATC) and those moving, loading, unloading, and servicing a range of aircraft achieve the objectives of their organisation in this diverse field.

“I am currently completing the Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship during my first year in post as a logistic supplier at RAF Brize Norton. This apprenticeship has provided me with development opportunities in several ways, not only has it allowed me to develop and consolidate knowledge of how to best perform in my primary role as an RAF logistician. It has also enhanced various aspects of my personal life including my self-confidence, ability to communicate to a variety of different people as well as manage my time and organisation of tasks based on their priority. In addition, the fact that this is a civilian backed qualification, will enable me to continue my professional development and career in logistics both inside and outside of the MOD. I would highly recommend this apprenticeship to anyone wanting to better themselves both professionally as well as in their personal life.”

The Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship is broken down into 3 key elements: firstly, the completion of trade specific question sets, encompassing a broad spectrum of skills. Topics addressed in the question sets include how to build relationships with clients, how to use information technology for the accounting of a variety of products used across the MOD, and how to safely operate manual handling equipment. Secondly, completing a mock practical and theory assessment with a mentor. Finally, a confirmatory assessment which assesses your practical and theoretical capacities as a logistician learned through the apprenticeship programme. This apprenticeship holds civilian recognition beyond the MOD, this is enhanced by the involvement of various sector leaders in the logistics domain including TNT UK Ltd, DHL and John Lewis.
