This work is in collaboration with the University of Newcastle and the company ULEMCo who have designed, are converting, and will trial the first hydrogen powered Medium Aircraft Towing Tractor (MATT).

The conversion of the MATT is underway, with the trial is expected to commence shortly.  It will include towing ground support and aircraft support equipment, as well as aircraft towing at RAF Cosford using the Hawk and Jaguar platforms.

The aim of the trial is to gather quantitative and qualitative data regarding the use of a hydrogen converted vehicle, while demonstrating potential routes for progression towards Net Zero 2040 for the RAF.
