The RAF Police is proud to announce an expansion of its annual Wilfred Bowes Trophy to honour exceptional investigative work by individuals.
Traditionally the Wilfred Bowes Trophy has recognised the RAF Police Squadron or Unit that has demonstrated investigative excellence, however, this year the ceremony will recognise individuals who have demonstrated outstanding investigative abilities.
“The establishment of the Defence Serious Crime Unit (DSCU), in Dec 2022, resulted in significant change across the single Service Police investigative capabilities. Today’s awards reflect how the RAF Police have met this challenge – which has only been possible due to the professionalism, drive and dedication of our people, both Regular and Reserves. They ensure that RAF Police investigative capability acts to secure and protect the RAF community, is conducted to nationally recognised professional standards and operates in close conjunction with DSCU. As DPM Investigations it is a privilege to be able to present these awards to such talented individuals and Teams.''

Wilfred Bowes was a Provost Officer who commanded the RAF Special Investigation Branch. He headed the investigation into the murders of recaptured officers who had escaped in the 'Great Escape' from Stalag Luft III in March 1944.
