BM Force's Hard Hitting Cruiserweight

The BM Force’s hard hitting Cruiserweight, SAC Parry, has enjoyed a memorable start to his return to RAF Boulmer, and also raised the profile of the unit’s boxing team and the RAF Boxing Association.

His run of good form continued with a hard earned points victory against the highly rated Army Champion, Pte Plummer, at RAF Halton.  This victory ensured his first Senior United Kingdom Armed Forces Title, and also the opportunity and honour to represent the Services in the Welsh National Championships.

A long journey to Caerphilly, South Wales, to contest the Welsh Semi-Finals was required to test the pale blue warrior against Chepstow’ Aiden Hampsey. Whilst many considered this previous Welsh Champion to be a test of SAC Parry’s technical and tactical ability, the BM Operator took a more direct approach to the contest.  Unwilling to allow Hampsey to settle into any rhythm, SAC Parry dictated the pace and within the first 30 seconds he landed several telling blows that floored his opponent.  Following the mandatory reset, Parry continued to apply pressure and forced the referee to save the Chepstow man from further punishment.

The Welsh Elite Finals were held at the Welsh National Sports Centre in Cardiff.  The Cruiserweight final was a re-run of last year’s event, the opponent on the evening being the reigning Elite Champion and Commonwealth boxer, Aaron Bird from Port Talbot.  With some success in the first 3 minutes, SAC Parry seemed set to avenge his loss to the tall counterpuncher. A crunching right hook from the Boulmer Hitman visibly shook his talented foe, but with outstanding fitness, the experience and spoiling tactics of the civilian fighter managed to withstand Emyr’s early onslaught.  Whilst confidence in the blue corner was high, a refreshed opponent gained a foothold in the bout and started an impressive fight back.  Potentially one round each, the bell for the final round was greeted with considerable zest, and the clash of styles continued to the end of this pugilistic battle. With few regrets, an exhausted pair of boxers waited for the decision and sadly for the RAF aviator, the judges awarded the title to Aaron Bird.

Despite this disappointment, SAC Parry takes some solace that he is now favoured for selection to compete in the GB Championships, representing his Country and Service.

Well done SAC Parry!
