RAF Boulmer Rises to the Challenge

Last month, Group Captain Booth and Warrant Officer Hughes had the honour of representing RAF Boulmer at the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) awards ceremony, conducted by the president of RAFA, Air Marshal Sir Baz North KCB OBE, at the Birmingham Metropole. For the Station’s exceptional achievements, relating to fundraising activities and various events, RAF Boulmer was awarded the ‘Sir Geoffrey Bromet Trophy’ – RAF Station of the Year.

The events and activities included cake sales, fundraising stands in the local area, donating funds from the Engineers’ Walk, arranging a Santa Run, and taking part in challenge events such as the Great North Run, RAFA Jumps, RAFA Rides, and RAFA Virtual 50. One of the highlighted events, raising almost £17,000 alone, was the very successful dinner organised at the Alnwick Garden to raise funds for the refurbishment of Rothbury House into retirement accommodation.

Raising almost £20,000 in 2022, we are delighted to able to support the vital work of RAFA.

Warrant Officer Hughes said:

The award was made even more remarkable considering the size of the station in comparison to the other larger units that were also in the running for the award.
