On Tuesday 19th November 2019, members of No. 4624 Squadron attended Oasis Academy Long Cross, a Primary School near Avonmouth for ‘World of Work Day’.
Number 4624 Squadron provides the RAF with its Reserve movements capability, based at RAF Brize Norton. The Squadron responded to the school’s plea for people and organisations to come and talk to the school children about their work, with the aim of inspiring future careers in a range of professions.
“We were absolutely delighted to come back to this amazing school and support them again. It just goes to show how simple events and acts, when coupled with enthusiasm, generosity and team-work can have an effect that’s out of all proportion to the effort involved.”
Wing Commander Rich Evans
Officer Commanding Number 4624 Squadron
Squadron personnel joined in with morning assembly and delivered two 45-minute interactive sessions to 50 children, using equipment, clothing and a radio-controlled forklift (a big hit!) so the children could get hands-on. Photo boards helped to illustrate what Movers do and the wide variety of other jobs available, with the emphasis being ‘you can do it!’
“The team delivered the most inspiring and exciting experience for our children and they loved every moment of it. The gifts bags were just the most thoughtful offering to each of them and the joy on their little faces as they opened them up and shared out with friends before running out to show their parents was priceless. The inspiring messages they left these children with will echo through the corridors, in their little voiced memories, for months to come.”
