During the Jubilee year Brizefest celebrated with an impressive two-day ‘Proms in the Park’ style evening and festival.
The weekend was an opportunity to thank Station personnel, their families, and friends, for their commitment to the RAF over the last 12 months.
Friday 2nd September began with an entertaining Proms evening with acts including the RAF Spitfire Choir, the talented Russell Watson, and the amazing Central Band of the Royal Air Force, who played until the fireworks finale.
As always, the Families Day/Brizefest committee arranged a non-stop day of events, displays, activities and musical acts. Families Day displays were given by the Rockets Children’s Motorcycle Display Team and a falconry bird of prey display as part of a full afternoon.
Throughout the day visitors were given the opportunity to take a look around a Voyager, C-17A Globemaster, A400M Atlas C.1, and C-130J Hercules, the static aircraft display was bolstered by visiting aircraft of all shapes and sizes including ex military aircraft from around Europe. The highlight being from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Lancaster and Spitfire flypast. On the airfield the aircraft were joined by an extensive car display, which consisted classic and modern cars.
The visitors were treated to an excellent parachute display by the RAF Falcons who brought the Stations Families Day to a close.
There was a variety of musical acts who performed throughout the day including the popular Dua Live, the amazing Forever Jackson and headlining was the incredible Flash; Tribute to Queen, who played until the spectacular firework display to close the 2022 Brizefest.
Our Station Commander, Group Captain Claire O’Grady, said:
“This was my first BrizeFest and it more than lived up to its reputation. A huge thank you to the Committee and those who supported the event – without their hard work and generosity it just would not have been possible. An absolutely outstanding event and an opportunity for us to say a big thank you to RAF Brize Norton personnel and their families for all that they do. I am already looking forward to BrizeFest 23!!”
