This week ambassadors from RAF Brize Norton are helping Carterton Primary School carry out their STEAM Week, giving the students a chance to engage and learn more about Science Technology Engineering Art and Maths.
STEAM Ambassadors from RAF Brize Norton are working with the students and staff of Carterton Primary School on a rage of projects to encourage their interest in future roles in STEAM fields.
The week started with an assembly lead by my Flight Sergeant Chris Mossman, showing the students the different types of industries and people that work in STEAM fields, followed by the first set of workshops.
“STEAM is a hugely important field to be promoting with young people, giving them an understanding of future career possibilities. It’s showing them what they can achieve and that there is a really fun side to all the things STEAM incorporates. One of the challenges is an egg drop challenge, and while it might seem simple on the surface it means they have to work as a team and develop ideas together to keep the egg safe while designing their contraptions.”

It's the first STEAM Week the school has run, with students from all year groups getting the chance to take part over the five days. Aisling Hill, Assistant Head at Carterton Primary School said:

“We can help the schools with lots of different elements. Everyone here today helping is an engineer so we can bring our experiences to the students. A third of the students at Carterton Primary are from a forces background so it’s great we can support the local community”
