Personnel from RAF Brize Norton, who volunteer as Co-Responders with South Central Ambulance Service, are making a life-saving contributions to patients in their community, spending their own time out on the road, reacting to emergencies.

Royal Air Force Brize Norton Station Commander, Group Captain Claire O’Grady, had the opportunity to ride along with some of the volunteers, observing first-hand the lifesaving work the teams do. She said:

“It was a real privilege to accompany a RAF Brize Norton Co-Responder team, as an observer on one of their shifts. It gave me an incredible insight into the work that they do. That there is a team of military personnel from RAF Brize Norton, across the ranks and professions, who give up their time to volunteer for such an incredibly challenging, yet vitally important role, is hugely impressive. Witnessing first-hand how the team responded to emergency calls, arrive at a scene and conduct a ‘first on scene’ assessment and triage was impressive. They were calm and collected throughout, showing a genuine level of compassion. I am exceptionally proud of the work that they do and their contribution to supporting both the NHS and the wider community.”

Corporal Charlotte Jones, from RAF Police and Security Flight at RAF Brize Norton, volunteers her time as a Co-Responder with South Central Ambulance Service. She said:

“I decided to get involved with the Co-Responding team at RAF Brize Norton to fill my spare time with something meaningful outside of work. It’s really rewarding knowing I’m able to do good and help people when we head out on calls. We get to meet all sorts of people when we are responding to incidents. We have a great team of volunteers here at Brize Norton who make up our Co-Responders and it was fantastic to be able to show our Station Commander the work we do when she accompanied us”
