Seventy-Five Trees Planted as Part of The Queen's Green Canopy Initiative

Last year, RAF Brize Norton applied to the Woodland Trust for 75 trees to plant on Station as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

In Spring, the trees arrived ready to be planted and many areas around the Station were considered, the ultimate location was chosen for the majority of the trees to be outside Gateway House with a couple to be planted outside of the 47 Squadron building as a fitting legacy to the Squadron.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) was a unique nationwide tree planting initiative created to mark Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Across the United Kingdom, people from all walks of life were invited to, “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”, to create a legacy in honour of Her late Majesty’s leadership of the nation, to benefit future generations. A tree can absorb 20kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year therefore, 75 new trees on Station will absorb 1.5 tonnes a year.
