Push 500 Challenge Visits Honington

A Wheely Good Cause

Today we welcomed the inspirational RAF veteran Sean Allerton as he completed another leg of the current Push 500 challenge here at Honington.

Sean was joined by several members of the Station including Force Commander Air Commodore Scott Miller, Station Commander Group Captain Matt Radnall and Station Warrant Officer Mac Macdonald as they wheeled alongside Sean for a few miles, socially distanced of course. Flight Sergeant Declan O’Keeffe and Group Captain Andy Hindley supported Sean throughout his challenge.

No thanks to the weather and battling a head wind on the return leg, Sean still managed a total of 14 miles around the airfield, taking his overall total so far to well over 100 miles.

Following a motorcycle accident, Sean wanted to give back to the charities that had supported him through his rehabilitation. Inspired by the Proclaimers’ song ‘500 miles’, Push 500 is a Charity Endurance Challenge led by Sean. The full challenge will see him complete 500 miles in his wheelchair at various locations in support of four military associated charities; RAF Association, RAF Benevolent Fund, RAF Charitable Trust and Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope.

Sean has already completed two 500-mile challenges and a 1,000-mile challenge in the past raising over £40, 000 for the charities so far.  That’s a lot of miles, and a lot of money!  Well done Sean.
