His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex visits RAF Waddington

RAF Waddington hosted His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, the station’s Honorary Air Commodore, on a visit around the Lincolnshire base.

The Earl was accompanied by the Station Commander, Group Captain Lorriman-Hughes, and the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Toby Dennis.

The Earl of Wessex met and heard from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) ambassadors from local schools during his visit. The children proudly showed His Royal Highness activities they have been working on to further their development in these key academic areas.

It was lovely to meet him and to see him engaging with the local schools who were thrilled to show him their air vehicles as part of Project X.

The Earl of Wessex then attended briefings from XIII Squadron, 1 Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Wing and 51 Squadron, of which some are currently conducting operations.

It was an honour to be able to host, and brief, HRH on the work and achievements of 51 Sqn this year. He was also able to chat with aircrew and engineers who were able to tell His Royal Highness about their valuable contributions to operations.

Towards the end of His Royal Highness’s visit to RAF Waddington, The Earl met this year’s station award holders in the Sergeants and Warrant Officer’s Mess.

It was an honour to meet His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex on behalf of 8 Squadron who are nominated for tonight’s Resourcefulness and Innovation Award.

It was an absolute pleasure to host His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex as our Honorary Air Commodore on this annual visit to Station. His genuine warmth towards our people and engagement in our wide variety of activities we undertake was very much welcomed by all.

His Royal Highness last visited the station on 30 September 2021 to mark the retirement of E-3D Sentry aircraft after 30 years of service. RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire is the main operating base for the Royal Air Force’s Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) assets.
