Flying Start Nursery

The Flying Start Nursery on St Michael’s Road in Wittering village provides pre-school facilities.

Wittering Primary School

Airplay youth workers are working in partnership with RAF Community Development staff to deliver children attending Wittering Primary School a range of activities and care; this is funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Family contact and temporary accommodation

Emergency accommodation at RAF Wittering is available for RAF personnel.

The accommodation can be used for visits from children of divorced or separated personnel, weekend and school holiday visits from family members, and temporary accommodation when you’re moving into or out of permanent service families accommodation.

Health and welfare

Medical Centre

Wittering Medical Centre can be used by eligible service personnel and dependants. The Medical Centre is not currently taking on new dependants due to being oversubscribed.

The Medical Centre is open Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) from 08:00am – 17:00pm, however it is closed every Thursday afternoon for essential training.

Dental Centre

RAF Wittering has a dental centre, which can be used by service personnel only.

There is no provision for dental services for service families and dependants of personnel at RAF Wittering. NHS dental services are located in Peterborough and Stamford.

Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA) Personal Support and Social Work Service RAF (PS and SWS RAF)


SSAFA Personal Support & Social Work Service RAF (PS&SWS RAF) is contracted by the MOD to provide welfare support to all serving personnel (regular and reserves) and their families. Our team of specialist Personal & Family Support Workers and Social Workers are located on stations in the RAF community throughout the UK.

Our service is confidential and independent from the Chain of Command. It is the aim of our service to support you to enhance personal welfare, maintain family stability and empower you to access the support networks you are entitled to.

Our service can support you with a range of issues including addiction & dependency, child support, financial, housing, mental health, personal support, physical health and relationships.

Anyone can refer themselves to SSAFA. You can contact our service by any of the ways below;

Station gym

Membership of the gymnasium is open to all RAF Personnel, MOD civilian and contractor staff employed at RAF Wittering.

To become a member, personnel must attend an induction briefing.

Bars and cafés

The bars and cafés on the Station are open to service, civilian and contractor staff at RAF Wittering. 

The Real Bean Cafe

Free Wi Fi is available in the Real Bean Café.

Located close to SLAM accommodation and the Wittering Bowl. 

Opposite the main entrance to the dining room there are computer terminals allowing Junior Ranks access to JPA.

  • Monday to Friday 6am to 8:15am, 11:30am to 12:45pm and 4:15 to 6pm
  • Saturday and Sunday 6am to 9am, 11:30am to 12:30pm and 4pm to 5:30pm

Thrift Shop

Family members of RAF personnel can sell things through the Thrift Shop.

Spar Shop

The Spar shop on the Station is open to spouses and partners of RAF personnel who have RAF ID.
