Night flying is expected at Royal Air Force Wittering in the week commencing Monday 18th May.
Transport aircraft crews plan to train with Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and training could continue each night until 0100 on Friday 22nd May.
Royal Air Force Wittering is reaching out to its neighbours and the nearby equestrian establishments to inform them of a change to the usual pattern of flying activity. These are necessary, routine, flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK’s fight against Coronavirus.
Operating under the cover of night is essential to modern military operations. NVG are a real tactical advantage and enable our crews to land and take-off safely during the hours of darkness.

The Station is one of several that supports night flying; a variety of airfields and environments gives crews a breadth of experience and ensures that no single area is unduly burdened.
Wing Commander Maxey concluded: “The Royal Air Force has an obligation to defend the United Kingdom and it’s essential therefore that we keep our Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers trained, up to date and ready for operations.”
