The application system in action can make precise calculations needed for safe and secure air drops.

Jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft is not something that everyone would want to do.

But it is essential for those such as paratroopers and for critical activities such as the delivery of humanitarian aid to isolated locations. Accuracy is paramount and one element of obtaining pin-point precision is wind calculation.

Project BALLISTIC is a wind calculator application that can be loaded onto a handheld device to enable the precise calculation of data for air drops, including high-altitude parachuting. It aims to increase accuracy while also enhancing safety for these essential tasks.

Following the initial design of the application, it has initially been tested on dozens of parachute drops. It is expected that the formal trial will begin shortly. If the trial is successful, the application could be considered for use as a high-altitude parachuting Computer Air Release Point calculator for use with all RAF aircraft.
